How Do I Choose Between VPS and Dedicated server for my website?

If we talk about hosting, we need to break down hosting in 3 tiers. Where Shared hosting is being lower tier where Dedicated Server hosting is elite tier. VPS float in between these two tiers. Tiers are categorized on criteria like configuration, performance and the customization. How to decide? Achieving the perfect balance between price you pay and performance you expect is tough ask. Sweetness is directly proportional to the amount of sugar you put in. Similarly, every performance has its price tag. Why to go with Dedicated server? Being the elite hosting tier, dedicated servers are generally embedded with pretty high configuration. Due to which they are often quicker and powerful choice to host.

Some high end VPS can provide low quality dedicated server performance but then the fact is dedicated server give you few benefits over VPS which generally do not get with VPS server hosting. Complete control over server is the USP and general attraction point of Dedicated server. As you have complete control over the server, you can manage its maintenance, you can opt for rebooting when needed, you have complete control over software's it runs. You can install customized software's which are very useful for your website. Generally you do not get that freedom with VPS or shared webhosting because they have limitation due to resource allocation. Most hosting providers do not give 100% control to their VPS client. Hence the bottom line is, you can install any and many software's over the dedicated server that dedicated servers hardware can handle. As you have complete control over dedicated server, then managed hardware configuration can also be the attraction for its customers.
Moreover VPS shares there resources and dedicated server put all the resources at single user who is the owner of the dedicated server. Due to the complete dedication of hardware towards customer, the outcome or the performance can be predictable in case of dedicated server hosting. This is a big plus for any client to assess the working of your website. If you are falling in the category that needs complete control over server dedicated server is the answer. Only thing is you need to shell out few extra bucks
Why to go with VPS ?
You find many hosting providers who may offer you unlimited bandwidth and or unlimited storage capacity. But there is catch. They never disclose the ability or say power of CPU and or available memory for your website. They do not promise about the performance of the hardware they use. There is often restriction over use of the memory and or CPU. VPS generally offers minimum resource allocation that gives guarantee. Which give edge over the Shared hosting. Though VPS has lesser control with respect to dedicated server but VPS gives more than enough control in comparison to the shared hosting. VPS provide your ability to install and use various software's, whereas in shared hosting you cannot install your software. If you are falling in category in which you are expecting more than a shared hosting plan and you cannot go with dedicated solution, VPS is the best answer for you.
